You’ve finally landed in Kuala Lumpur! Welcome to the land of perpetual summer, delectable food on every corner, shopping malls galore and an overall great time. Or perhaps you’re just about to embark on your travel adventure from Kuala Lumpur? But first, what’s this maze you seem to have gotten yourself into? Fret not, dear traveller. You’re not lost, you’ve simply entered Malaysia’s main international airport and one of the major airports in Southeast Asia and worldwide.
We understand that travelling can be quite stressful to begin with, hence we’ve broken down the know-how of getting around KLIA2 for you! Think of it as a survival guide of sorts, regardless if you’ve just landed in Kuala Lumpur or you’re simply awaiting a flight back to your home sweet home. Fasten your seat belts and let’s get down to navigating KLIA2!
Transport
While KLIA2 is rather far from the city centre, there are plenty of ways to get to and from the airport. If taxis are not your cup of tea, there’s always the option of taking the KLIA Express, a ride hailing service such as Grab or even your own car if you’re local or renting a vehicle here.
The KLIA Express as its name suggests, is a high-speed connection between KLIA and KL Sentral Station. It merely takes a ride of approximately 30 minutes in an air-conditioned, comfy coach and you’ll be within the heart of the city with plenty of food and shopping options awaiting you once you hop off at the station. The train provides ample baggage storage space, tourist information on digital screens and a 4G WiFi connection so you can while away those 30 minutes updating everyone about your eventful flight. KLIA Express ticket prices are not only fixed so you won’t have to wonder about the cost, but the tickets are available online so you can prep for your trip even before you reach the city! A single trip KLIA Express ticket costs RM55 for adults and RM25 for children aged 12 and below while a ticket there and back chalks up to a discounted price of RM100 for adults and RM45 for children. However, there are plenty of packages available including family and group travel package options so do check them out before you embark on your journey. On a tight schedule? No worries, the KLIA Express schedule is just as packed as yours. The trains arrive on a frequency of one every 15 minutes during peak hours and every 20 minutes during off-peak hours so you’re guaranteed to be able to catch a ride.
If you fancy a little more privacy, calling for a ride-hailing service such as Grab may be your best bet. With a host of car options to choose from, you’ll get to enjoy a relaxing drive and enjoy the sights of the city along the way. Drop-off points are available at the klia2 and klia departure halls as well as Tune Hotel klia2. You can opt to Grab to or from KLIA2 directly but prices differ based on the traffic situation and driver availability. Want a hack on how to save money on your transport costs to and from KLIA2? Just purchase a KLIA Express Ticket + Grab Package online and you’ll get free Grab voucher codes worth up to RM10 each! How’s that for a steal?
Driving to KLIA2 instead? There are options for that too at KLIA2’s integrated complex, Gateway@klia2 Mall. Additionally, there are 52 disabled-friendly parking bays that have been reserved on every car park level. KLIA2’s parking rates start at a rate of RM4 per hour with a daily maximum rate of RM46 per day. But what if you need a place to rest and park your precious car while awaiting a delayed flight? Rest & Relax
Now that we’ve gotten the issue of transport out of the way, there’s the matter of finding a good spot to chill while awaiting your boarding time. Layovers and flight delays can make even the most seasoned of travellers cranky, but there’s nothing a good nap and a shower cannot fix. In the past, premium lounges would have been designated for business class travellers only. However, as flying became more accessible to all, the days of being relegated to a dingy metal airport chair to snooze uncomfortably are long gone. Now you can opt to nap, lounge and shower at KLIA2’s Plaza Premium Lounge for a comfortable airport experience. A tempting spread at the food and beverage station, shower rooms with amenities, private resting suites, computer workstations, complimentary WiFi and even seated massage services, all the creature comforts you could possibly want or need are readily available with just one reservation. However, do be warned that the prices can be a little steep particularly if you’re laid over for longer than 10 hours.
Considering a budget-friendly option instead? Head over to Tune Hotel KLIA2. Not only is Tune Hotel KLIA2 one of the closest to the airport, it even has Day Use Transit Rooms up for booking! Complete with an en-suite bathroom, queen-sized bed to catch some z’s and one meal at their Makan bistro restaurant, a rest at Tune Hotel KLIA2 is a welcome respite from the hubbub of the airport. If you plan on staying the night, get your tummy ready for an all-you-can-eat breakfast from Tune Hotel’s Makan bistro the next day at an affordable rate of only RM20!
Party your evenings away with a live band and happy hour with beers at RM10++ from 5pm – 7pm at klia2’s coolest bar, Minum by Tune Hotel klia2. On Wednesdays, we’re celebrating cabin crew night where all airline and airport staff get to enjoy a 20% discount! Not part of the crew? Don’t worry, you’re still invited to join the party.
