A huge contributor to Sarawak tourism, the Rainforest World Music Festival is one of the largest music festivals in Southeast Asia. The 3-day festival is held in July at the Sarawak Cultural Village, and it’s jam packed with culture, workshops, and entertainment.
If you’ve never attended a music festival before, here are some things that you should have with you at the Rainforest World Music Festival.
1. Water bottles (filled to the brim with water, of course!)
Although most music festivals prohibit their attendees to bring in water bottles into the festival grounds, they’re allowed at the Rainforest World Music Festival. Water is super, super, super important during a music festival – with all the sweating and screaming that will go on, you will be thankful to even have just a drop of water with you as the food and beverages sold at the festival are quite pricey.
2. Sunscreen lotion (SPF 24179 will do)
The weather in Malaysia can be pretty erratic at times. The sun can either be just nice, providing you vitamin D, or it can fry you quicker than a thin piece of bacon on a grill. Either way, remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours or so.

a Raincoat is necessary
3. Raincoat
Super handy in case the sky decides to have a sudden outburst. It’s also a good substitute for an umbrella as opening an umbrella in a tight crowd will upset some festival goers.
4. Wet wipes
Extremely useful for wiping your hands before eating, a quick “bath”, or when the porta-potties run out of toilet paper. True story, bro.
5. Powerbank
With everything going on, you might be separated from your friends at the Rainforest World Music Festival. If you’re unfortunate, Murphy’s Law will run its course and leave you stranded – your phone can and will run out of battery. A powerbank will solve that. Take that, Murphy!
6. Waterproof bag
In case of a downpour, your phone will thank you.
7. Insect repellent
If your blood type is O or A, you will attract mosquitoes like bees to honey, and are at higher risk of dengue fever. As they say, prevention is better than cure, eh?

8. Earplugs
If you’re standing right in front of the speakers, good quality earplugs will allow you enjoy the music at Rainforest World Music Festival at a safe decibel. Also useful to prevent partial deafness for the next few days and annoying the people around you.
9. Extra set of clothes
An extra set of clothes will be more useful than heavy when faced with a sticky situation.
10. Mat/blanket
Necessary for those who prefer to sit down and enjoy the music, but not get their bottoms wet or dusty.
Bonus tip:
11. Book your accommodation in advance
Pre-book your stay at Tune Hotel Waterfront Kuching for better value. By doing so, you’ll have more to spend on food and drinks at the festival!
Apart from the items above, remember to bring along your passion for music and overall, a good time!
